Campos dos Goytacazes is best known in football circles as the birthplace of Didi, but the city has produced 42 documented association football players in total. Other notable players include Amarildo Tavares da Silveira, Carlos Gilberto Nascimento Silva, José Pedro Santos and Denílson Custódio Machado. Documented players span more than 194 years, from 1811 to 2005.
